No Better Time
The life of the Christian church here on earth draws her life from the Spirit. In a time when hate grabs for the mind of the church, never has there been a greater opportunity to celebrate the Day of Pentecost and the ascension of Jesus. He now reigns with steadfast power as the world convulses.
He reigns through the fire of Pentecost when the water is poured on the brow that swallows up death and makes sure one’s rebirth.
Man’s coming into his own might have given human names to theories; it is the remembrance in the bread and wine that keeps the fires of faith burning brightly in the soul.
Ascension never meant that Jesus left to be replaced. There on His throne by His Father He reigns to intercede for His own. Hebrews 7:25 This means, as Brian Thomas writes in his blog, that the church lives in a “Spirit-empowered age. Jesus is not localized in one place at one time—He is present in the people by the Spirit, active in the world through their witness . . . building His kingdom through the proclamation of his gospel . . . orchestrating the church’s mission, empowering each member through the spirit, and drawing the world to Himself through the songs the Gospels sing.”
