A New Relationship

David Berlinski in his book, Human Nature, writes that what the academic and professional life says is irresistible, but it brings with it a dark shadow. Regardless of how brilliant and godlike the human being has become in understanding his own biology, he deliberately will not allow a “divine” root to enter into the door of his mind.

It is for that reason that we are unable to resist the ideas that we are evolving into more caring and effective people. With this idea comes the thought that we can reach a certain level, intellectually, morally and socially, from which we cannot fall below.  But, as Leo Strauss, the German-Jewish refugee philosopher wrote, this idea has proven to be false. Consider, Strauss writes, the depths to which the world has experienced the effects of barbarianism in the 20th century.  In spite of the many strides we have made in being able to heal, correct and direct our ways, the 21st century is proving to be even more pernicious. For those who now control the pulpit have all but silenced the truth and have become free to shape the ideologies by which we live.  Now the exploiting of innocent people has reached a level of incivility justified by the idea that the human is only biological and is designed to rule and survive through selfish genes.

The exploiting of innocent people has reached a level of incivility justified by the idea that the human is only biological and is designed to rule
and survive through selfish genes.

Such becomes a world that denies the existence of God.

In the days of the prophet Jeremiah, God warned His people not to listen to false prophets.  Do not listen to them because they will fill you with false hopes and ideas. They will speak visions that come out of their own minds, not from the mouth of God.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord.
 Jeremiah 23:16

What a hopeless world this would be if we lived only according to the particularities of our genes as in natural selection. David Berlinski asks  asks,“Where would we ever find the startling coherence and complexity of living systems,?” p 195 The Devil’s Delusion. For as long as the physical sciences have made their claims, Berlinski writes, poets and artists have known that there is something inhuman about the undertaking science has assigned to itself.

The more the physical world is studied, and the richer our grasp of its principles, the greater the gap between what it represents and what we embody. P 205 In other words, this physical world is not our world. And if our world has things science cannot explain, then we must go elsewhere.

It is God who must fill in those gaps for us. Nowhere does He do this more comfortingly than through His Son, Jesus Christ.  Jesus reminds us that there will be times when this world looks attractive when you weep and the world is enjoying itself. But Jesus quickly adds, when a woman gives birth to a child there is pain but it will turn into joy in this new relationship that has been created between a mother and a child.

A New Relationship

The time is coming when the things of this world will scatter you, but God will create a new relationship with you.  In this relationship His love will be made complete in you through your relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
John 16:27-28

Through His Son, God assures us that He has overcome this world.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
